What Do Organizations See as the Top Benefits of a CCMS Deployment? The Results May or May Not Surprise You

CCMS

We recently published results of a global survey conducted by IDC and sponsored by Quark that revealed the challenges enterprises face in addressing content complexities. Results show organizations are making investments in their content operations infrastructure and seeing real benefits from a Componentized Content Management System (CCMS) deployment. Results also show that content challenges differ by organization and the industry in which they operate. As such, CCMS adoption is driven by support for specific use cases.

For example, businesses that operate in highly regulated industries are pressed to ensure regularly updated content (which can encompass a pharma label or multi-page document, for example) is assembled and published with 100% accuracy, while adhering to language, compliance and regulatory output standards.

What we uncovered from the survey – which reflects feedback from hundreds of respondents involved in content management within enterprises across multiple global regions – is that one of the biggest drivers of deploying a CCMS solution is to improve content workflows and keep pace with growing documentation regulatory and compliance requirements.

With content directly contributing to business growth, enterprises are fortunately taking the necessary steps to modernize their content operations. It’s clear a manual approach to content development and management processes will not ensure business success in a digital era.

And it certainly won’t support omnichannel publishing strategies. With multiple stakeholders involved in creating content, a CCMS solution fuels content team collaboration, replaces a static process with a dynamic one, and allows your subject-matter experts (SMEs) to create reusable content components that can be assembled into omnichannel outputs with just a few clicks.

What’s more, your organization can reduce review and approval cycles to support faster time to market. We long ago knew the benefits of automation to the content lifecycle process and it’s great to see global organizations see it too. According to the results, organizations that have deployed a CCMS, powered by content automation, cited improved workflows (45%) as one the top 2 benefits.

Better compliance management (44%) was cited as the 2nd top benefit to a CCMS deployment. It’s a reminder that many global organizations are creating content that includes documentation that must adhere to compliance and regulatory requirements. Your business cannot afford to practice manual compliance processes. They are resource-intensive, time-consuming, and increase the risk of pushing non-compliant content that exposes your business to legal penalties and reputational damage. A CCMS solution lets your content team focus on creating content, instead of compliance anxieties, and can quickly adapt content to adhere to market conditions, corporate strategies and customer needs.

CCMS supports a structured authoring approach that allows content teams to build modular content that is componentized (broken down into segments that can be text blocks, images, slides, etc.) and tagged with metadata so it can be combined and reused dynamically. This gives your organization peace of mind that only compliance-controlled content is being published.

It’s exciting to see organizations investing in their content strategies. It’s also great to see global enterprises successfully address their workflow and compliance challenges with a CCMS, which shows an organizational investment in both your people and content operations success.
