Quark is committed to giving back and helping those in need. A charity that is particularly near and dear to us is the Wooden Spoon children’s charity of rugby that funds life-changing projects for disadvantaged children and families in need across the UK and Ireland.
On October 8, we had the privilege of being this year’s Wooden Spoon Vets Fest children’s charity event organiser and premier sponsor for the second year in a row. But what made it extra special was not only the visit of HRH The Princess Royal but how many Quark employees came out and supported the event by volunteering their time. It was a beautiful day that brought over 750 veteran rugby players (men and women) together at Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club to support an amazing cause that raised funds to help children and families in need. So far this year’s event has raised over £85,000, surpassing last year’s total of £64,000.

Many of you know I am a passionate rugby player, and I was honored to act as organiser and chairperson of the West Midlands Wooden Spoon region for this year’s event which focused solely on raising funds for long-term projects that support the mental health challenges of our young people. We sold over 1,000 tickets and our 750 rugby players came from many regions, including Scotland, Sussex, Wales and more and divided into 24 teams. Attendees could see hundreds of middle-aged rugby players having fun playing a sport we all love while raising money to support a wonderful cause.
Wooden Spoon is a national charity organization and funds approximately 70 life-changing projects across the UK and Ireland every year. The majority of its income is raised by local volunteers where every penny raised by volunteers is spent in underprivileged local communities. Even despite difficult conditions over the past year, the organization supported 43 charitable projects helping over 100,000 vulnerable children and young people.

Corporate social responsibility is extremely important to Quark and we’re always looking for opportunities that allow us as a company to give back. Our corporate culture is our top priority and are committed to offering all our employees an opportunity to make an impact within the communities they serve.
