How did you get started in the world of graphic design and can you tell me a little about your journey?

I am now retired but cannot completely let go of my old profession. That’s why I still run my small business with a select few clients that I enjoy working with.

I started my training as a graphic artist in 1967 at a small printing shop next to a set box. I graduated in 1971. The development went quickly and soon we were working with the new technique.

From 1992 it was on an Apple computer and QuarkXPress 3.1. And that’s how it’s been ever since. Now it’s QuarkXPress 20.0. I have been extremely happy with Quark, which works stably and precisely.

What do you enjoy most about the world of design?

The best things in this world are when you have tasks where you have free hands to work creatively with design and deliver a result that the customer is excited about.

Tell us about a project you’ve worked on in the last 12 months that’s near and dear to your heart?

The most exciting task of the last 12 months was producing a book, the life story of an 85-year-old woman, both the story and the task were exciting.

The elderly lady had collaborated with two different people who were to create her book, but it ended without success. I wanted to help her and was sure I would succeed.

Our collaboration was perfect and ended with a friendship.

What are some challenges you have encountered with design?

Before the days of QuarkXPress, it was fundamentally much more difficult to do creative tasks. With QuarkXPress, which was quick to get used to, I suddenly had a lot of tools that made work much easier.

Are there any features in QuarkXPress that help you overcome these challenges?

I am especially happy with the good tools for creating complicated tables.

Can you tell us why you enjoy using QuarkXPress and how it differs from other software?

I am happy with the intuitive and logical operation in QuarkXPress. The logical operation comes completely naturally to me. Also, I am especially happy with the menu at the bottom of the screen. The structure of the menus is simple and logical.

I have been on a course in alternative programs, but the result were that QuarkXPress was clearly preferred for my production.

What advice would you give someone very early in their design career?

I would definitely recommend them to use QuarkXPress. I have personally trained at least 10 people in the program and in a short time they have become skilled and able to solve all tasks.
