Installing Quark License Administrator

Quark License Administrator (QLA) is a server-based, license management system. When you purchase two or more licenses of a Quark application, QLA, which is included with the application, simplifies the installation and maintenance of the application on multiple computers.
There are three main steps to installing QLA:
- Installing the QLA Server application on a computer on your network.
- Registering and downloading a license file from the Quark Web site and placing it in the QLA Server folder.
- Installing the QLA Client application on a computer on your network
Installing the QLA Server
NOTE You must run the QLA Server software on a computer with a fixed IP address.
- Insert the QLA installation CD into your computer
- Double-click the QLA Server Installer icon. The InstallShield window opens
- Select a language for the installation wizard.
- Click OK. The Welcome dialog box displays
- Click Next. The License Agreement dialog box displays
- Click I accept the terms of the license agreement
NOTE You must accept the terms of the license agreement to continue.
- Click Next. The Installation Destination dialog box displays
- Click Next. The User Information dialog box displays
- Enter the user name and password for the system administrators who will administer QLA.
NOTE The user name and password you enter during installation are the user name and password you will use to log on to the QLA Client to manage licenses and view the system logs. - Check
Install as Service if you want QLA to be installed as a service. If you
do not want to have QLA installed as a service, uncheck the Install as
Service check box
- Click Next. The Registration Information dialog box displays
- Check Register and Download a License file. A browser window will open later to download the license file.
- Click Next. The Computer Specifications dialog box displays
NOTE You will use the information in the Computer Specifications dialog box when you register for the QLA license file on the Internet. Write down this information for quick reference
- Click Next. The Install Complete dialog box displays
- Click Finish. The QLA Server is installed. NOTE You need to download the QLA license file and install the QLA Client to complete the QLA installation process.
Registering and Downloading a License File
During the QLA Server installation process, a browser window will open after you click Install in the Installation Type
dialog box. You must download this license file before you can use QLA
to regulate license usage on your network. After you download this
license file, you must place it in the QLA Server application folder
- Choose your language from the Language drop-down menu
- Choose your region from the Region drop-down menu
- Click Continue. The Quark License Administrator log on page displays.
- If you already have an account, enter your user name and password. Click Continue. Skip to step 7 of the installation instructions.
- If you do not have an account, you need to create one. Click New Account. Follow the next steps for setting up your account.
- If you already have an account, enter your user name and password. Click Continue. Skip to step 7 of the installation instructions.
- The Account Setup page displays
- Enter your log-on information.
- Customer number
This number appears on the invoice for your Quark software. - User Name and Password
You will need this user name and password if you want to download and/or change your license file in the future. Note that this is a separate user name and password from the user name and password assigned in QLA Server.
- Customer number
- Enter your system information.
- Accounting and System administrator e-mail addresses
You can enter up to ten system administrator e-mail addresses, separated by semicolons. When choosing the e-mail addresses, Quark recommends that you use a company or department address such as SystemAdmin@company.com rather than an individual’s address.
- Server Name/Server IP Address
This is the IP address of the computer where QLA Server is installed. This value is displayed in the Computer Specifications screen of the installer, and is also included in the “MachineInfo.txt” file in the QLA Server application folder. To find this address manually on Windows:- Display the DOS command prompt. Use one of the following options to access the DOS prompt:
- Start > Run and enter “command” in the Open field, then click OK
- Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
- The DOS dialog box opens.
- At the command prompt enter “ipconfig/all” and press Enter.
- The IP address displays in the IP Address line.
- Display the DOS command prompt. Use one of the following options to access the DOS prompt:
- Server Port Number
This is the network port used by QLA Server. This number must be between 1024 and 65535. Quark recommends using 10000 unless that port number is reserved by another application. The value is displayed in the Computer Specifications screen of the installer, and is also included in the “MachineInfo.txt” file in the QLA Server application folder.To display the list of unavailable port numbers on Windows:- Display the DOS command prompt. Use one of the following options to access the DOS prompt:
- Start > Run and enter “command” in the Open field, then click OK
- Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
- The DOS dialog box opens.
- At the command prompt enter “netstat -a” and press Enter.
- A list of unavailable ports displays.
- Display the DOS command prompt. Use one of the following options to access the DOS prompt:
- Server Host ID
This is the unique host ID of the computer where the primary instance of QLA Server is installed. This value is displayed in the Computer Specifications screen of the installer, and is also included in the “MachineInfo.txt” file in the QLA Server application folder. To find this ID manually on Windows:- Display the DOS command prompt. Use one of the following options to access the DOS prompt:
- Start > Run and enter “command” in the Open field, then click OK
- Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
- The DOS dialog box opens.
- At the command prompt enter “ipconfig/all” and press Enter.
- The IP address displays in the Physical Address line.
NOTE If you have installed QLA on a backup server enter that information in the Enter Backup Server Details section of the web page.
- Display the DOS command prompt. Use one of the following options to access the DOS prompt:
- Accounting and System administrator e-mail addresses
- Enter
the product serial numbers to manage from this server. If you have
several serial numbers, separate them with semicolons (;).
- Click Submit. The https://qlaweb.quark.com dialog box displays
- Click OK. The Download License File page displays
- Click Download Now. The Downloads window displays. Close the Downloads window when the license file has been downloaded.
- Click Log Off in the browser window and close the Web browser.
- Open the QLA Server Application folder.
- Cut the downloaded “QLALicense.dat” file from the downloaded location.
- Paste the “QLALicense.dat” file into the QLA Server Application folder.
Installing Quark® License Administrator Client (Control Panel) on Windows®
- Insert the QLA installation CD into your computer.
- Double-click the QLA Client Installer icon. The InstallShield window opens.
- Select a language for the installation wizard.
- Click OK. The Welcome dialog box displays.
- Click Next. The License Agreement dialog box displays.
- Click I accept the terms of the license agreement.
NOTE You must accept the terms of the license agreement to continue.
- Click Next. The Installation Destination dialog box displays.
- Click Next. The Server Information dialog box displays.
- Enter the server name and server port number that were entered in to the QLA license file. If you installed a backup
server, enter the information for the backup server name and backup server port number.
- Click Next. The Install Complete dialog box displays.
- Click Finish. The QLA Client is installed.
