QuarkXPress 6.1 Issues Resolved

Following is a list of issues resolved in QuarkXPress® 6.1.

Copy protection and activation

Mac OS™ only: When you activate QuarkXPress through a proxy server (used to connect to the Internet through a dedicated connection on a Local Area Network [LAN]) , the password characters now display as asterisks (*) in the Activation dialog box. QuarkXPress does not quit unexpectedly if you delete the password from the Activation dialog box.

Document construction

Mac OS only: Creating a layout after checking Facing Pages in the New Project dialog box no longer causes QuarkXPress to quit unexpectedly.

Open and save

  • QuarkXPress now correctly opens version 5.0 libraries with form controls such as text fields, buttons, and pop-up menus.
  • QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly if you open a document or project that was saved in QuarkXPress 6.0.
  • A number of issues dealing with saving documents locally and over the network have been resolved.

Graphics and pictures

  • QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you import, update, print, or collect JPEG images that were created in Adobe® Photoshop®.
  • Windows® only: Embedding image files from other applications using copy and paste or OLE embedding no longer corrupts documents or causes QuarkXPress to quit unexpectedly.

Using tables

Mac OS only: You can now use a mouse to create tables correctly in QuarkXPress.

Tools and palettes

Windows only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly if there are more labels than will fit in the Label pop-up menu of the Library palette.

PDF import and export

  • If you export an EPS file with an embedded TIFF image as PDF file with default settings, the image no longer shifts.
  • In previous versions, if you exported a layout with large (60MB or more) TIFF or EPS images as a PDF file, imported the PDF file into a new QuarkXPress layout, and then printed separations, the file failed to print. This issue has been resolved.
  • Windows only: TrueType Outline OpenType and most TrueType fonts now embed correctly when you use the Export as PDF feature.
  • In previous versions, if you imported a PDF file created from a Photoshop document that used PostScript Outline OpenType fonts and then printed the file, text in the PostScript Outline OpenType font did not print correctly. The problem has been resolved now and the text prints correctly.
  • Mac OS only: When you import a large TIFF image into a layout and export it as a PDF (File > Export > Layout as PDF) using the default export settings, the PDF file is now generated correctly.
  • In previous versions, if you printed a PDF file created from a Photoshop document that contained TrueType Outline OpenType or PostScript Outline OpenType fonts on a PostScript® printer, the “Fonts not embedded in the PDF” alert displayed and the fonts did not print. This issue has been resolved.

Text and typography

  • Mac OS X only: When you select text in a text box and increase the font size to 128 pt or larger, the color of the text no longer changes.
  • Mac OS only: When you enter characters with diacritical marks in Arial, Geneva, or Courier fonts, the diacritical marks display correctly on screen and are no longer cut off at the top.
  • Mac OS only: When you enter text with accented characters using a PostScript font and resize it to 80 pt or larger, the characters no longer shift from the baseline.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when font names in a font family are greater then 127 characters.
  • Deleting parts of linked text chains on master pages or choosing None from the Content pop-up menu (Item menu) no longer corrupts a document.

Menus and dialog boxes

  • You can now change the name of an EPS asset using the Save Page as EPS dialog box.
  • The OPI tab is now available in QuarkXPress. In previous versions, the OPI tab did not display if you changed the regional options in the control panel to English (United Kingdom) on Windows or to UK on Mac OS.
  • After changing the program language, if you open the Layers palette, the QuarkXPress help system no longer launches along with the Layers palette.

Printing and output

  • Windows only: In previous versions, spot colors did not display in the Color palette if you imported a PDF file with spot colors based on old Pantone® color libraries into a picture box in a QuarkXPress layout and then saved the page as EPS. This issue has now been resolved.
  • Windows 2000 only: TrueType fonts are now no longer replaced by Courier fonts when you use a network printer with Windows 2000 print services.
  • Mac OS only: The Print Status dialog box now correctly displays the print job names in the queue. In previous versions, the Print Status dialog box displayed “Unknown” instead of the print job name while printing to AppleTalk® printers, creating PostScript, and while spooling. This issue has been resolved.
  • In previous versions, if you created a PDF file using PostScript Outline OpenType fonts, did not check the Embed all fonts check box (Job Options tab > Font Options area), imported the PDF file into a new QuarkXPress layout, and then printed it to a PostScript printer, the fonts were replaced with Courier fonts, even if the correct fonts were available on the system. This issue has been resolved.
  • In previous versions, print jobs did not print in the correct sequence when non-default values (such as @ or # ) were entered in the Sequential and Nonsequential fields (Preferences > Interactive). This issue has now been resolved.
  • In previous versions, QuarkXPress printed a type check alert instead of the actual print job when you printed a Monotone, Duotone, or Multitone EPS image to a PostScript printer. This issue has been resolved.

Launching the application

  • Mac OS only: QuarkXPress now launches correctly when you choose French Canada as the first language and Canadian-CSA keyboard settings.
  • Mac OS only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly on launch if a corrupt font is installed on your computer.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly if a large number of fonts are installed on your computer.
