QuarkXPress 7

Simply faster

Assessing the return on investment

QuarkXPress 7 includes more than 160 new and enhanced features to enable you to work faster and smarter. A new independent report from Ron Roszkiewicz Consulting quantifies this claim and concludes that QuarkXPress 7 offers the highest productivity in both design-intensive and production-intensive workflows.

The results show that QuarkXPress 7 is able to complete the workflow tasks in less time than other applications can. The report attributes this speed to the innovative new features in QuarkXPress 7, particularly those concerned with design and collaboration. The report also highlights the superior quality of the final PDF files generated by QuarkXPress 7 through the use of the Quark® Job Jackets™ technology, ensuring the most consistent and reliable output of all the applications tested.

The report uses the benchmarking results to calculate the potential return on investment (ROI) for QuarkXPress 7:

  • An upgrade to QuarkXPress 7 could produce an annual savings of up to $7,000 per title for even a small magazine.
  • Designers using QuarkXPress 7 are more than $6,500 dollars a year more productive than those using InDesign® CS2.

The report was written by Ron Roszkiewicz, a publishing consultant with more than 30 years of experience in the industry. Ron is a regular contributor to The Seybold® Report and also serves on the Seybold Advisory Board. The report includes the results of some benchmarking tests carried out by Erika Kendra, a recognized expert on design software who has written several books on this subject.

When you're up against a deadline, it's speed that counts. QuarkXPress 7 is the first professional design and page layout application to run natively on the new Intel-based Macs and utilize the additional processor power that the Intel chips provide.

Compared with QuarkXPress 6.5, simply importing a text file takes about half the time in QuarkXPress 7 on an Intel-based MacBook Pro.

“Using QuarkXPress 7 on the new [Intel-based Mac] computers is just incredible in terms of speed.”

Andrew Olson, systems supervisor, GA Communications

The following graphs show the results for the range of actions we measured on the Apple® new Pro range of Intel-based laptops and desktop machines, comparing QuarkXPress 7 Universal with QuarkXPress 6.5 and Adobe® InDesign CS2.

“... No other application can really compete with QuarkXPress for raw power.”

Stephen Pritchard, Independent Online, August 20, 2006

Testing was conducted by Quark in August 2006. Laptop tests compared QuarkXPress 7.01 running on a 2 GHz MacBook™ Pro with QuarkXPress 6.52. Desktop tests compared QuarkXPress 7.01 running on a 2.66 GHz MacBook Pro with QuarkXPress 6.52.

All computers had 1GB of RAM and were running Mac OS® X 10.4.7. Only the application being timed was running during the tests.
