QuarkXPress 7

QuarkXPress 7.3 known issues

Following is a list of issues discovered in QuarkXPress® 7.3.

  • Normally when you import “XPress Tags” text that does not include explicit tab positions, the tab positions of the target paragraph (the paragraph into which the text is imported) are applied to the imported text. However, tab positions in the target paragraph are currently ignored under these conditions. (Note that if the “XPress Tags” text contains explicit tab positions, those positions are correctly applied to the target paragraph.)
  • If you zoom in and out on a picture box that contains a picture or a color, there is space between the border of the box and the picture or color.
  • If you save a duotone image as a PSD file in Adobe® Photoshop®, you cannot import the image into QuarkXPress. To resolve this issue, save the duotone image in a different format and then import it.
  • If you save a duotone image as an EPS file in Adobe Photoshop, import the EPS file into QuarkXPress, and then export the layout as a PDF, the EPS picture may display black.
  • A pixel shift may occur in the following scenarios:
    • When two images with different resolutions overlap.
    • When a semi-opaque image overlaps another image.
    • When a masked area of an image overlaps text in a text box.
  • If you import an RGB PSD image and then export the layout as a PDF, with the As Is or As Is Device Independent option selected, the image may be converted to CMYK.
  • If you copy content from a Microsoft® Excel® document, paste the content into a picture box in QuarkXPress, and then export the layout as a PDF, the pasted content displays in low resolution and raster format.
  • If you import an RGB image containing an embedded profile, the image displays without using the embedded profile. To resolve this issue, select the Color manage RGB to RGB destinations option in the color source setup (Edit > Color Setups > Source).
  • The Total Inks rule does not evaluate images when you evaluate a layout (File > Job Jackets > Evaluate Layout).
  • If you create a layout with an Output Specification that has a Minimum Image Resolution or Maximum Image Resolution value, import a raster EPS image which does not meet the value, and then evaluate the layout (File > Job Jackets > Evaluate Layout), QuarkXPress fails to point out that the layout uses an image that’s too low or too high in resolution.
  • If one text box full of text completely covers another, and the frontmost box has a drop shadow and has been rotated, the layout may take a long time to export to PDF format.
  • If you create a project in QuarkXPress 6 and then open it in QuarkXPress 7, the “Garamond BQ Regular” font replaces the “Garamond BQ Italic” font.
  • If you open a project created in QuarkXPress 7.0 that contains justified text, the text may unexpectedly reflow.
  • Appending a large number of resources (for example, appending style sheets that reference several colors and H&Js) into a Job Ticket may take a long time.
  • The message "Specific layout settings or different font versions may cause this
text to reflow. [19]" may display as you scroll through a project, and text may reflow.
  • If you use the “SavinC3528 Printer” to print more than one copy of a layout, and select the collate and staple options, the collate and staple options may not be honored.
  • If you open a project that was created in QuarkXPress 7.02 or 7.1, and that project includes right indent tabs and negative tracking, text reflow may occur.
  • If you save an image as a PSD file in Adobe Photoshop CS3 and then import the PSD file into QuarkXPress, spot or alpha channels may not be included in output.
  • If you import an Adobe CS3 PDF that contains a PSD image into QuarkXPress, and then print or export the layout, QuarkXPress may unexpectedly quit.
  • If you create an Adobe InDesign® or Adobe Illustrator® PDF in which transparency or a drop shadow is applied to text, and then import the PDF into QuarkXPress, QuarkXPress may unexpectedly quit.
