QuarkXPress 7

QuarkXPress 7.31 known issues

Following is a list of issues discovered in QuarkXPress® 7.31:

Normally when you import “XPress Tags” text that does not include explicit tab positions, the tab positions of the target paragraph (the paragraph into which the text is imported) are applied to the imported text. However, tab positions in the target paragraph are currently ignored under these conditions. (Note that if the “XPress Tags” text contains explicit tab positions, those positions are correctly applied to the target paragraph.)

If you save a duotone image as an EPS file in Adobe® Photoshop®, import the EPS file into QuarkXPress, and then export the layout as a PDF, the EPS picture may display black.

If you open a project created in QuarkXPress 7.0 that contains justified text, the text may unexpectedly reflow.

Zooming, moving, and scrolling may be slow for pictures that have complex clipping paths.

Mac OS® only: If you print a layout to an Epson Stylus® printer using a paper size other than Default (File > Print > Page Setup > Paper Size drop-down menu), and then print the same layout again, the paper size reverts to a custom paper size.

If you print a layout that contains a drop shadow with a blur of 0pt, the edges of the drop shadow are anti-aliased.

If you import a PSD file that contains semitransparent areas, set the picture box's background color to something other than white, and then print the layout, white may be introduced into or near the semitransparent areas in the output.

Output may be incorrect for layouts that include overlapping semitransparent items. You may be able to avoid this issue by slightly repositioning the semitransparent items.

Windows® only: The position of previews in picture boxes may be different when a project is opened in QuarkXPress 7 than it was when the project was saved in an earlier version of QuarkXPress. To avoid this issue, import the pictures again.

If a Word document contains a style sheet that specifies black or automatic-color text, and that style sheet is based on another style sheet that specifies colored text, any text that uses the first style sheet is given the Registration color when imported into QuarkXPress.

Quark is aware of the following issue:

  • Use Adobe Illustrator® Creative Suite® 3 to open an EPS file that was created in an earlier version of Adobe Illustrator, and then save that EPS file from Creative Suite 3.
  • Import the EPS file into QuarkXPress.
  • Turn on the Vector EPS/PDF Color Management feature (QuarkXPress/Edit > Preferences > Color Manager pane > Color Manage Vector EPS/PDF check box).
  • Export or print separations of the layout. Items that use process and spot colors display on all plates.

Abbreviated words are incorrectly flagged by spell check if they occur at the beginning of a sentence.

Mac OS 10.5 only: No warning is displayed when you save or export a file to a location where a file with the same name already exists.

Mac OS 10.5 only: When you select a picture file in the Import Picture dialog box (File > Import Picture), only the Finder preview of the picture displays.

If you import an Adobe® Creative Suite® 3 PDF that contains a PSD image into QuarkXPress, and then print or export the layout, QuarkXPress may unexpectedly quit.

QuarkXPress may unexpectedly quit if you attempt a PDF export of a project that uses a duotone EPS file.

If you import an Adobe Illustrator® or Adobe InDesign® PDF that contains text with transparency or drop shadows, and then print the layout or export it in EPS or PDF format, QuarkXPress unexpectedly quits.

If you import an Adobe Illustrator PDF containing vertical text and then print the layout, save the page in EPS format, or export the layout in PDF format, the vertical text displays incorrectly

If you save a duotone image as an EPS file in Adobe Photoshop, import the EPS file into QuarkXPress, and then export the layout as a PDF, the EPS picture may display black

If you import an RGB PSD image and then export the layout as a PDF, with the As Is or As Is Device Independent option selected, the image may be converted to CMYK.
