Quark License Administrator Overview

Because business has an ebb and flow, the amount of work changes all the time. During slower times, you don't want to have to pay for more software licenses than you are using. But when business heats up and the demand for software is high, you want to ensure that there is not a moment lost because vital software is not available.

That is why it is crucial to have a license management tool that works the way your company works. Quark® License Administrator (QLA) allows you to keep access to Quark products in step with the peaks and valleys of your company's changing workflow.

QLA software simplifies the installation and maintenance of a Quark application on multiple computers. QLA also gives you the flexibility to assign a license to an individual computer, a person, or an entire group. If you need to accommodate freelancers, contractors, and employees who work on the road, you can provide them with remote license files so they can use Quark applications from remote sites.

QLA is included when you purchase five or more copies of a Quark application.

How it works

The process is simple. QLA monitors requests for Quark software licenses over your network. If a license is available, the request is fulfilled and a license is checked out, which completes the launch of the Quark application on the user's computer. When users exit the Quark application, the license is checked back in and becomes available to someone else.

Simplify maintenance and installation

Because QLA is a server-based application, it simplifies the installation and maintenance of Quark software throughout your company. System administrators have complete control over when, where, and how users access Quark products. That makes QLA ideal for large companies with multiple users. It adds speed, control, and cost efficiency to your administration of Quark software licenses.

Use both QuarkXPress 6 and 7

If you are a member of the ServicePlus™ maintenance program, QLA can help you gradually migrate to new versions of QuarkXPress® by allowing you to concurrently run licenses for different versions of QuarkXPress. Contact your ServicePlus administrator for details.

Empower your mobile professionals

Traveling or off-site employees can use Quark applications on their laptops or other remote computers by checking out extended licenses through QLA or through the remote license check-out functionality. When an extended license is checked out, it is unavailable to other users until it has been checked back in. When a user checks out an extended license, he or she specifies how long the license will be checked out. At the end of that period of time, the license will no longer launch on the remote computer, and it will automatically be checked back in on the network.

The system administrator can define the minimum and maximum duration for software license checkout. Similarly, remote license checkout allows you to specify how long the license will be checked out and the license can simply be sent as an attachment to an e-mail message to remote users or freelancers in the field who do not have access to the QLA server or the network.

If a mobile user needs instant access to QuarkXPress but the license has expired and your IT staff has left the office for the day, Emergency Key Launch (EKL) allows 120 hours of uninterrupted access to QuarkXPress.

Respond quickly to the unexpected

With QLA managing your Quark product licenses, you'll be able to respond quickly and efficiently to unexpected situations such as high-volume demand. QLA can temporarily increase the number of licenses available with no lost time and no snags in your workflow. If your network fails, QLA offers Emergency Key Launch, which allows 120 hours of uninterrupted access to QuarkXPress - plenty of time to get your network back up and running.
