Quark announces Winners of PrintIT! Awards 2012
Quark sponsors competition to promote print design skills among UK students
London, UK - 7/9/2012 - Quark announces today the winners of the PrintIT! Awards, a nationwide education initiative led by Proskills UK to encourage students to consider a career in the print and paper industries. As Gold Sponsor, Quark donates a site license for the cutting-edge print and digital design software QuarkXPress® 9, worth £1,750, to each winning school.
Aimed at pupils studying for GCSE and A-level media studies as well as Graphic Products and Product Design, the competition attracted over 9,000 students from 350 schools in the 2011/12 programme.
The PrintIT! 2012 awards took place on the 6th July at the Stationers Hall in London, where Aleesha Patel from Beauchamp School in Leicester was awarded Overall Winner of the 2011/12 competition, as well as the award for the Best Packaging. Other winners include students from Saints Peter & Paul Catholic College, Devonport High School for Boys, St James Catholic School, Uddingston Grammar, Bucksburn Academy and TJ International in categories including Best Wall Poster, Best Use of Brand Across the Range and Best Floor Graphic.
As part of the project, students were asked to create various designs to suit a print-based campaign promoting Fairtrade products in supermarkets, with emphasis on sustainability and environmental issues. As part of the brief, students had to show their understanding of different printing techniques and paper sources that could be used in creating their product.
Ian Aspely, Proskills General Manager said, “PrintIT! (printit.org.uk) is an amazing initiative that raises the awareness of Print and Paper industries to young students and opens their eyes and talents to careers they may never have considered. The PrintIT! awards have been a great success and an inspiration. It’s great to see that we are developing a new passion in students for Print and Paper.
“We have had fantastic support from the industry without which we wouldn’t have been able to make the programme work, but more importantly we are all working together to inspire the next generation.”
Peter Schaebbicke, Quark European Channel and Education Programmes Director, comments: “We congratulate all the winners of the PrintIT! Programme for an exceptional turnout and first-class entries to the competition. Thanks to the PrintIT! initiative students across the UK were able to experiment with QuarkXPress to combine their creativity with professional print output, learning skills that will help them to stand out in a competitive job market, should they wish to take up a career in the print and paper industry.
