PCI and Quark Announce OEM Agreement
Quark to Leverage Scriba XML Tool Suite in XML Strategy
DENVER - 4/3/2008 - Quark Inc. and PCI announced today that Quark will leverage PCI’s Scriba XMLTM suite of tools as a part of the company’s XML strategy. In order for publishers to deliver dynamic content to a wide variety of media, organizations must bridge disparate data systems and content formats to create a unified data stream with a minimum of manual intervention. This data must then be enhanced and repackaged to allow for analysis and delivery to a wide variety of media including print, PDF, web and mobile devices; creating sophisticated and integrated digital content workflows.
PCI’s focus on the development of conversion and XML workflow technology and Quark’s desire to capture a dominant position in this arena has allowed these two leading companies to cooperate in future developments and distribution world-wide to users searching for leading content delivery applications.
“PCI has made a strong commitment to developing tools that enable our customers to create, manage and evolve complex digital content workflows without the need for complex scripting, XSL and custom development,” said Andrew Bart, president, PCI. “We put the power of XML and JavaTM into the hands of the content creator, allowing publishers to rapidly deploy print to web solutions. We share Quark’s vision for the future of content distribution and are excited to participate by developing some of the essential software tools.”
Jim Haggarty, Quark CIO, said, "XML is a key ingredient for Quark's publishing technology strategy. We see PCI's XML tool as highly functional and complementary to Quark’s vision. Quark uses XML as the underlying data format for componentizing information because its capabilities line up perfectly as the basis of structured content. XML enforces the absolutely consistent structure that makes automation possible. Without this consistency, the only option would be to continue the labor-intensive effort of hand-crafting pages indefinitely."
