Quark Acquires GLUON Assets Including Advanced HyperPublishing Technology
Acquisition of Publishing Technology Strengthens Quark’s Ability to Enable Enterprise-Scale
Web-to-Print, Variable Data Printing, and Advertising Automation Solutions
DENVER - 4/6/2010 - Quark Inc. announced today that it has acquired the assets and technology of GLUON, the New Jersey-based software company that has developed tools for the corporate and publishing industries for over twenty years. The acquisition includes GLUON’s HyperPublishing System suite of products which Quark will integrate into its dynamic publishing software to enable enterprise-scale Web-to-print, variable data printing (VDP), and advertising automation solutions.
Quark and GLUON have partnered for years to integrate QuarkXPress® Server with GLUON’s HyperPublishing System to create automated print and multichannel solutions for corporate marketing departments, printers, advertising agencies, publishers, designers, and governmental agencies. The acquisition of GLUON’s HyperPublishing System allows Quark to strengthen its ability to offer customers the technology for creating customized, design-rich documents that can be dynamically changed or created on-demand.
“Acquiring GLUON’s HyperPublishing System provides us the unique opportunity to bring together the production and distribution sides of marketing communication and publishing businesses,” said Nick Howard, Director of Enterprise Products for Quark. “We now offer unparalleled dynamic publishing capabilities that will help customers manage brand control, create on-demand print-ready materials, connect with customers through personalized advertising, and more.”
As part of the acquisition, Quark also gains GLUON’s best-of-breed XTensions and Plug-ins that add efficiencies and capabilities to QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator. The popular XTensions and Plug-ins will continue to be developed by the GLUON team and remain available through the GLUON online store (http://store.gluon.com) as well as through specialist distributors and resellers globally.
“As a long-time partner of ours, we anticipate huge successes with the integration of our HyperPublishing System with Quark’s dynamic publishing software. It makes tremendous sense for enterprise-sized customers who need to automate their advertising processes, publish variable data, or are entering the Web-to-print market,” said Peter McClard, CEO of GLUON. “The GLUON team will remain dedicated to furthering our enterprise technologies with Quark, as well as maintain control of our XTensions and Plug-Ins for both Adobe and Quark desktop products.”
GLUON’s employees will join Quark and will continue to provide their expertise to customers in development, implementation, and customer support.
