Fashion Photographer Mathias Walter Chooses QuarkXPress 8 for Cross-Media Communication
Leveraging QuarkXPress 8's Cross-Media Functionality, Walter Designed the Layout of his Magazine and his Website to Create the Ultimate Visual Experience
PARIS (FRANCE) - 6/2/2009 - Quark today announced that the fashion photographer Mathias Walter has chosen QuarkXPress® 8 to produce his printfolio magazine "Errance & Luxe" and his interactive website. This 24-page tabloid-format portfolio will be printed and distributed to fashion agencies and published on the Internet. It contains photos and videos from shooting sessions and will be online. This means a full multi-channel communication has been produced within a single work environment.
A Passion for Technology
Mathias Walter began his journey studying American literature while at the same time taking evening classes in his true passion, photography. He was also interested in cinema, in particular everything relating to lighting techniques, and worked on several video clips as a director of photography. In 1999, after two years as an assistant photographer, he started to shoot his own material, which had a strong cinematic influence.
In 2004, he decided to create his own magazine, entitled “Le printfolio,” which Walter describes as "an independent creative magazine containing my fashion photographs and articles by several authors. Two thousand copies of it have been produced each year since 2004. One hundred copies are numbered and signed by the author." Each year a specific theme is covered. It is distributed exclusively to leading players in the fashion industry in France and abroad: advertising agencies, fashion magazines, designers, galleries, etc. With "Errance & Luxe", Mathias Walter took the Canadian model Kim Cloutier from the Next agency around the Pont de Bercy in Paris for shooting sessions in mid-April.
QuarkXPress 8: Cross-media Publisher
A long-standing user of QuarkXPress, Mathias Walter "discovered with version 8 a tool that I had moved away from slightly; a tool which had not only been largely redesigned but which, above all, perfectly met my expectations."This was because in addition to printing his printfolios and compiling all his creations from the year, the photographer needed to present them on the Web via a lightweight, dynamic site "while retaining control over the content," from the shooting sessions to their distribution in print and Web format.
"QuarkXPress 8 offers both control of the print layout and flexibility of use for HTML or Flash® (SWF) formats," he says.
As the entire printfolio layout was designed with the idea that it would also be published on the Internet, "the online version offers less complete photo areas in order to enable the insertion of videos in the Flash section. What impressed me was how easy it was to move from one tab to the next, from one medium to the other, without exiting the application."
"Quark offers unequalled expertise in terms of not only layout but also design," explains Réjane Bouffaut, Quark marketing manager for Southern Europe. "With QuarkXPress 8, we offer creative professionals – designers, graphic artists, photographers, etc. – the opportunity to manage the distribution of their creations no longer just on paper, but also on the Web. The recent IT Enquirer study which underlined the enhanced Flash design capabilities of QuarkXPress 8 is confirmed by many concrete examples, including Mathias Walter" (www.it-enquirer.com). Quark worked together with the SICOP printing house (www.sicop.fr), located in Strasbourg, to support this project. The printfolio and its Website, combined with case studies and behind the scenes videos, will be available beginning at the end of May, 2009, but you will soon be able to follow the development of the project either at I Love Design (www.ilovedesign.com/fr), Quark's graphic community site, or at www.schhh.fr, Mathias Walter's site.
