Quark Announces Availability of QuarkXPress 8.02 Updater

Free Update of QuarkXPress 8 Simplifies Installation Process and Introduces Additional Support for Five New Languages

DENVER - 1/28/2009 -

Quark Inc. today announced the release of the QuarkXPress® 8.02 update, available immediately to existing customers for download and as a free 60-day Test Drive. The release improves the installation experience, adds user interface localization for five additional languages, and builds on the rock-solid performance and reliability that customers are already experiencing with QuarkXPress 8 by addressing the most important issues reported by customers. In addition, this release adds support for the latest updates from Pantone Inc., PANTONE® Goe™ color libraries.

“We are thrilled at the positive reception QuarkXPress 8 has received from the industry, customers, and media since its launch last year,” said Terry Welty, Quark senior vice president of corporate marketing. “We have been in close contact with our QuarkXPress 8 users, and this release addresses some of the key issues we’ve heard from them and also simplifies the process of installing the application, especially in large workgroups. In addition to the existing 12 user interface languages supported in QuarkXPress 8, we are delighted to offer native user interfaces to Danish, Norwegian, Czech, Portuguese, and Finnish speaking customers.”

Success of QuarkXPress 8
QuarkXPress 8, launched last May, delivers superior design power through a new, intuitive interface developed purposefully for the creation of high-end page layout; print, Web, and designer-friendly Flash® authoring tools; design-driven typography; and global publishing capabilities. Customers from across the globe are in unanimous agreement that this upgrade has been one of the most significant ever — and one that enhanced their productivity from the day they adopted it.

“As longtime QuarkXPress users, we were keen to upgrade as quickly as possible to the new version, especially as we had heard so much positive feedback in the market,” said Steve Long, Creative Director, The AGA Group. “And we weren’t disappointed: QuarkXPress 8 has the perfect combination of familiarity and freshness. Our designers really like the new user interface, as it is so intuitive and is very much in tune with the way they work on a daily basis. In terms of performance, we have no complaints; QuarkXPress 8 is extremely stable and reliable. As a global organization, we deal with clients from around the world, so we really appreciate the benefits of having a host of new user interface languages in QuarkXPress 8. This truly is global publishing.”

Additional language support
The QuarkXPress 8.02 update introduces user interface localization for five new languages: Danish, Norwegian, Czech, Portuguese (European), and Finnish. The new language features have been developed and implemented in close collaboration with key partners and customers in each of the relevant markets.

Up-to-date PANTONE color library support
Quark continues to offer its customers easy, built-in access to the most up-to-date color systems by adding support for the latest colors from Pantone (PANTONE Goe Bridge coated). "As a longstanding key partner, Quark was one of the first companies to endorse the PANTONE Goe System as the future of color specification and control," said Andy Hatkoff, vice president of OEM and technology licensing for Pantone. "Including support for PANTONE Goe and PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® Libraries in QuarkXPress 8 empowers creative professional with all the essential PANTONE colors they need for graphic design and publishing."

Simplified installation
QuarkXPress 8 introduces ‘silent-install’ features that allow users to more easily install the software over a network. In addition, the activation process has been streamlined and includes the ability for users to switch from their 60-day Test Drive version to a full version of the software without installing QuarkXPress again.
